I saw this post of someone asking what the left lane means. To answer op's question: that faint yellow line you see is the original emergency lane, which was covered up. The cover paint is wearing off, so now we have ghost markings underneath. Confusing for everyone. I drive koteshwor to suryabinayak almost every day and I cannot stand what they did to this road in 2023. Context: in september 2023 they introduced a "bus rapid transit" lane on this road. It only ran during peak hours (9-11 am and 4-6 pm). It failed almost immediately. Now: the rapid bus lane is basically just an overtaking lane for bikes and cars now. slow vehicles are pushed into the middle of the road instead of staying on the left like the old 2020 rule. they're now getting overtaken from both sides at once. bikes and cars just squeezing past on the left in the bus lane. this is one of the most dangerous things you can have on a road. the new lanes are noticeably narrower than before as well. It's mostly noticeable when there are big ass tippers at night. Before, even when you drove slowly, there was enough space for these tippers to speed up on the right lane. Now it feels like they are so close to me while driving. just bring back the 2020 setup (slow on left, fast on right, which is how roads work everywhere) . If you want to introduce the rapid lane for buses again, do it with proper planning and physical separation. You will also have to widen the road a bit, because it was designed to be a 3 lane highway PS: Don't remove the divider in the middle, that's the best thing about this road. and please just repaint the whole stretch properly!!!! anyone else feel like this?
